Excessive Heat and Humidity Friday through Sunday

National Weather Services Issues Excessive Heat Watch for Tri-State Area with Heat Index Values from 105 to 107 Friday and 105 to 113 Saturday

An Excessive Heat Watch means that the combination of heat and humidity could create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.

Seniors and those with chronic health problems or mental health conditions are at increased risk. Homes without air conditioning can be much hotter than outdoors.  Use air conditioning to stay cool at home or go to a place that has air conditioning. Check on vulnerable friends, family members and neighbors.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heatstroke is an emergency! In cases of heat stroke call 9 1 1.

Hazards:

 Extreme heat can cause illness and death among the at-risk population who cannot stay cool.

Impacts:

 The excessive heat may quickly cause heat stress or heat stroke, especially during outdoor exertion or extended exposure.

Timing:

 The highest Heat Index values will occur during the daytime, especially on Saturday. However, given how hot and oppressive this air mass will be, there will not be much relief at night.
