Cavallo, Grace
Grace Gilmore Cavallo, 90, a former 55-year resident of 34 Ramapoo Road, Ridgefield, CT, passed away at River Glen, Southbury, CT, Friday, August 10. Mrs. Cavallo was born February 7, 1922 in the Bronx, NY and attended NYC schools. A homemaker for most of her life, she was known for her beautifully intricate knitting and lovely flower and vegetable gardens grown from seed. Specialties her family enjoyed were Thursday night spaghetti dinners, fresh baked apple strudel and Czechoslovakian Hoska. In later years she worked for Benrus/Pic Design Corporation until her retirement in the early 1990s. She loved Native American Culture and was a Charter Member of The Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian. The daughter of the late Emily (Skalnik) Livingston and the late John E. Livingston, she was the widow of Vito A. Cavallo. She was predeceased by her son Vito A. Cavallo II, her brother John Livingston and sisters, Ethel DeLuca, and Audrey Welsh. She is survived by her children: James P. Toohey and his wife Gara of Memphis, TN, Laurel (Toohey) Casazza and her husband William of Southbury, CT, Pamela (Cavallo) Miller and her husband Thomas of Montrose, CO as well as 8 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She had a smile for, and enjoyed talking with, anyone she met and cherished her years with close neighbors, especially Pauline and Rolf Almgren. Some of her favorite pastimes were receiving phone calls and mail as well as sharing family stories. Calling hours will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, August 13, in the Daily Chapel of Sacred Heart Church, 910 Main Street South, Southbury, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 14, at Sacred Heart Church, Southbury. Interment will follow in Saint Mary's Cemetery, Ridgefield, CT. Carpino Funeral Home, 750 Main Street South, Southbury is in charge of funeral arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian, P.O. Mary Halloran Sponberg, 82 of Ridgefield, wife of the late Conrad A. Sponberg and brother of Timothy (Laura) Halloran of Ridgefield died on Friday, August 10, 2012 at Wilton Meadows, Wilton. A Mass of Chriistian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at 10:15 am in St. Mary Church, Ridgefield. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Ridgefield. The family will receive friends in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield on Monday, August 13, 2012 from 5PM to 8PM. Contributions to Meals On Wheels, 25 Gilbert St., Ridgefield, CT 06877 would be appreciated.
