Tomorrow Night: Grammy® Award winner Michael McDonald at The Ridgefield Playhouse

The multiple Grammy® Award winner singer/songwriter who contributed to the songbook of our times with his hits  “It Keeps You Runnin’”, “Minute by Minute”, “What a Fool Believes”, “I Keep Forgettin’”, “You Belong To Me”, “Takin’ it To The Streets” and more, Michael McDonald is returning to The Ridgefield Playhouse with a brand new show and an even bigger band on Tuesday, September 11, at 8 p.m. McDonald is the legendary Steely Dan and Doobie Brothers member with a recognizable soulful baritone voice and musicality. Special guest is singer-songwriter Griffin Anthony who has released two albums, Crazy Ways and Griffin Anthony EP. This Guinness Black Lager Rock Series
event is partially underwritten by Green-Seal Insulation, Inc. with media sponsor WEBE 108fm.

McDonald merges Memphis soul with rhythm and blues and Motown. He plays keyboards and piano, sings and composes.  As a successful solo artist, McDonald continues to wow with songs including “Sweet Freedom”, “You Belong to Me” and “Living for the City”. “What a Fool Believes” became the #1 single in the U.S. and earned a 1980 Grammy® for Song of the Year. McDonald co-wrote Carly Simon’s hit “You Belong to Me”.

When he was with the wildly popular Steely Dan band in the ‘70s, Michael McDonald added his unique timbre to "Peg" and "Time Out of Mind” singing backup and playing keyboards. One year after the release of Steely Dan’s Katy Lied, Michael got a call from the Doobie Brothers to join them on the road. By 1977, McDonald was welcomed into The Doobie Brothers as a full member.  In the years that followed, the group enjoyed tremendous success with a sound evolving from guitar-driven rock to a sultry, tight R&B feel. McDonald wrote and sang lead on "Takin' It to the Streets", "What a Fool Believes", "Minute by Minute" and other signature songs.

McDonald released If That's What It Takes in 1982 and has completed a series of projects, each distinguished by its high production value, well-crafted songs and full-throated vocals. "Yah Mo B There", with James Ingram, won a Grammy® Award in 1984; "Sweet Freedom" was used as the theme for the Billy Crystal/Gregory Hines film Running Scared; "On My Own" with Patti LaBelle reached #1 on the Pop and R&B charts and #3 on the AC charts in 1986. "I Keep Forgettin' (Every Time You're Near)” reached the Pop charts Top 5 and the Top 10 on both the R&B and AC charts.
