International Guitar Sensation Ottmar Liebert & The Luna Negra Band At The Ridgefield Playhouse

by Susan Dumont-Bengston

Feed the heart and soul with multi-Platinum award-winning contemporary guitarist Ottmar Liebert and his touring band Luna Negra (“Black Moon”). They will bring an inspiring performance to The Ridgefield Playhouse on Friday, May 13, at 8 p.m. Current releases include Scent of Light and Up Close which represent Brazilian and Peruvian rhythms that are being played on smooth jazz stations across the country.   Mélangé Fine Wines & Spirits will host a complimentary wine tasting in the lobby from 7 – 8 p.m. This event is part of the Doyle Coffin Architecture Singer/Songwriter Series.

Ottmar Liebert’s global success on a musical level is partly an outgrowth of growing up in a German household and travelling extensively in Europe and Asia, and due in part to his talent thrilling audiences the world over.  He has released a catalog of classic recordings including the remix collection Euphoria, the live album ¡Viva!, the double CD Opium, the classical-oriented orchestral album Leaning into the Night and an album with Luna Negra, The Santa Fe Sessions. “Ottmar’s guitar playing is reminiscent of many of the greats:  Andres Segovia, Paco De Lucia, John McLaughlin.  Like a true virtuoso, his playing is original, gently aggressive, and most importantly, heartfelt and beautiful,” wrote The Tripwire. And a Santa Fe, New Mexico review praised Liebert and Luna Negra: “In these difficult economic times, experiencing this uplifting performer is a live music experience not to be missed.  Ottmar Liebert & Luna Negra’s concerts continue to break attendance records and we invite you to enjoy these concert events, support live music and bring your family and friends to an inspired evening of music by one of the truly great modern flamenco guitar players.”

In 2009, Ottmar Liebert received the Silver award for Best Flamenco Guitarist from Acoustic Guitar Magazine. His touring band Luna Negra features bass, keyboards, drum and percussion for a lush blend of provocative sounds of fiery flamenco with texture derived from ambient electronics and backups from bass and electric guitar.
