It's Personal ~ PTP of Ridgefield

Located across the street from Party Depot, and tucked in behind Kennedy’s, Personal Training Professionals (PTP) is a fitness center with a focus on personal training. “We do one thing, and we do it well,” says Ridgefield resident and owner, Chris Carlson.

With the support of five trainers and a nutritionist, PTP assesses each client individually. “We have clients from ages 8 to 80 in here, some are tri-athletes and some have never exercised a day in their life, but that is the beauty of what we do.  There is no one size fits all; everyone gets their own customized program.”

Carlson is very proud of his employees. “They are not intimidating. Our trainers are all certified, friendly and want to see you succeed. We all get attached to our client’s outcomes; we are invested,” he says confidently, “I have the trust in them or they wouldn't be here.”

Strengthening and toning are essential, but so is eating right. One of PTP’s trainers, Lauren Cassandra, a Doctor of Naturopathy with a Master’s in Nutrition, offers a 30 minute initial consult which includes an intake of medical history, pathologies, supplements, goals, sleep habits, sensitivities. “I sit down and get to know what you like, what you don’t like so you never feel restricted,” she says.

Hidden fees? Expiration dates?  Not at PTP. “We don’t charge an initiation fee, or a membership fee, and packages never expire,” says Carlson.  He recalls a client who joined in 2009, was involved in a car accident, and just recently got his doctor’s permission to begin working out again. Carlson smiles when he says, “He calls me up to say that he’s ready to come back and wants a new package. I say, “That’s great, but you still have four sessions from 2009.”

In addition to being committed to the health and wellness of each client, Carlson cares deeply about something else, the community of Ridgefield. Carlson often partners up with other Ridgefield businesses, donates to the schools, and to local charities. One cause in particular is near and dear to him. “My mother passed away 12 years ago from breast cancer, so every year I get creative with my Breast Cancer Awareness Fund Raiser. This year we sold $75 donations to “Train your Trainer.” That’s right - twenty of Carlson’s clients had a chance to make him sweat. “We have a lot of fun here,” he says.

Carlson invites anyone who is serious about their health to head to PTP - the first session is on him. “Have a free session, give us a shot. We know you are going to like what you see,” he says.  When asked about hours he says, “Our hours are appointment based but I’ve been known to be here as early as 4am, and as late as 10pm on a Friday.  We’re here whenever you need us to be.”
