Have You Ever Visited The Hammond Museum?

by Joanna Kutler ~ contributor, day tripping & family outings

The Hammond Museum is one of those wonderful hidden gems that everyone should visit.  Tucked away in North Salem, New York, the Hammond Museum is rather small but utterly charming.

The grounds include an art exhibit hall, an outdoor cafe and a lovely Japanese stroll garden.  The Museum seeks to foster appreciation of Eastern and Western culture through art exhibitions, concerts, special events and educational programs.  To that end, the Museum offers many interesting programs and exhibits throughout the year, including a Korean Culture Day on June 18th, an outdoor watercolor class every Tuesday in July for 8-14 year-olds, a big band/swing concert on August 5th, a moonviewing celebration on August 20, and a mid-autumn festival on September 10th.  Visit www.hammondmuseum.org for additional information.

Adjacent to the Museum building is the beautiful Japanese Stroll Garden, complete with a teahouse entryway, zen garden, pond, and lovely walkways throughout.

Planning your trip: The Hammond Museum is located at 28 Deveau Road, North Salem, NY and the phone number is (914) 669-5033. The Museum is open Wednesday through Saturday (April-November)  from 12:00pm-4:00pm.  Admission is $5.00 for adults and free for children under 12.  The Silk Tree Cafe is open Wednesday through Saturday from 12:00pm-3:00pm.
