It’s a 30th anniversary celebration of the Tom Tom Club’s infectious dance music featuring Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth who will perform their only Connecticut concert at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Friday, June 10, at 8 p.m., performing their fan favorites including “Genius of Love” and “Wordy Rappinghood”. This show is one of their final summer events in the states before they head to Great Britain in July. Special guest is New York’s own singer-songwriter Patti Rothberg. Media sponsor is WFUV.
Chris Frantz who plays drums for Tom Tom Club and Tina Weymouth, called a “monster bass player”, started this dance phenomenon when they were taking a break from Talking Heads and launched Tom Tom Club, named after the dancehall in the Bahamas where they rehearsed in 1981. The new high-energy 6-piece band dances all over the stage! They have produced such hits as “Genius of Love”, “Wordy Rappinghood”, “The Man with the 4-Way Hips” and more. They’ve released eight albums, from Tom Tom Club in 1981 to Genius of Live in 2010. In the current lineup are Chris Frantz on drums, Tina Weymouth on bass, Victoria Clamp and Mystic Bowie on vocals, Bruce Martin on keyboards, Kid Ginseng on turntables and Deep Banana Blackout’s Fuzz on guitar.
