Tasting, Art & Jazz with 5-time Grammy® nominee Ottmar Liebert & Luna Negra Saturday, June 8, at The Ridgefield Playhouse

Five-time Grammy® nominated flamenco-jazz guitarist Ottmar Liebert and his touring band Luna Negra have become one of the most successful instrumental groups of the past decade, thrilling audiences the world over. They will headline in an evening of wine, art and jazz at The Ridgefield Playhouse on Saturday, June 8, at 8 p.m. Current releases include Scent of Light and Up Close, representing Brazilian and Peruvian rhythms. A 7:15 p.m. lobby wine and cheese tasting by No. 109 Cheese & Wine and a reception and exhibit with artist Josa Weatherwax kicks off the multi-sensory evening. Southwest Café will pour a free margarita with dinner the night of this event when tickets/stubs are presented. This show is part of the Doyle Coffin Architecture Singer/Songwriter Series.

Popular in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand in addition to his U.S. following, Ottmar Liebert has released 25 albums and earned 38 Gold and Platinum distinctions. La Semana, his first album, has become one of the best-selling guitar albums of all time.  Liebert’s global success is partly an outgrowth of his cultural roots in a German household coupled with extensive travel in Europe and Asia.  He has released a catalog of classic recordings including the remix collection Euphoria, the live album ¡Viva!, the double CD Opium, the classical-oriented orchestral album Leaning into the Night, and with Luna Negra, The Santa Fe Sessions.

Luna Negra features bass, keyboards, drum and percussion for a lush blend of provocative fiery flamenco sounds melded with the texture of ambient electronics and bass and electric guitars. In 2009, Ottmar Liebert received the Silver award for Best Flamenco Guitarist from Acoustic Guitar Magazine.

“Ottmar’s guitar playing is reminiscent of many of the greats:  Andres Segovia, Paco De Lucia, John McLaughlin.  Like a true virtuoso, his playing is original, gently aggressive, and most importantly, heartfelt and beautiful,” wrote The Tripwire.

A Santa Fe, New Mexico review praised Liebert and Luna Negra: “… Experiencing this uplifting performer is a live music experience not to be missed.  Ottmar Liebert & Luna Negra’s concerts continue to break attendance records and we invite you to enjoy these concert events, support live music and bring your family and friends to an inspired evening of music by one of the truly great modern flamenco guitar players.”
