Annual day of service brings volunteers close to home
The postal service creed says “neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night” will prevent the job from being done, and now 14 Deloitte volunteers can claim this as well. On Friday, June 7, Deloitte’s 14th annual IMPACT Day came to Ridgefield, with a number of projects completed at Barlow Mountain Elementary School, including:
- Building two pergolas (during the tropical storm!) for the school garden, which will extend the teacher’s outdoor classroom time with shelter, and providing new plants for the garden
- Cleaning out a cluttered and hard-to-use PTA closet, and providing new shelves, bins, and organizational materials
- Re-organizing the literacy team’s book room to align with the Common Core State Standards, and providing new leveled fiction and non-fiction texts and other supplies
“In only a few hours, the Deloitte volunteers really made an impact on our school – one that will be felt far beyond IMPACT Day,” said Rebecca Pembrook, BMES Principal. “We appreciate their contributions to making our school community even better for our students, staff, and families.”
The annual day of service is a cornerstone of Deloitte’s Impact Imperative, the organization’s corporate culture of professionals who contribute their time, innovative thinking, and specialized business acumen to help nonprofits advance their missions.
