
The Ridgefield Police Department would like to announce a gun buyback program. The event will be held on August 10, 2013 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Town Highway Department located at 60 South Street. The event is being offered to provide cash for individuals for unwanted firearms.
The disposal of unwanted ammunition will also be provided.
There will be a "no questions asked" policy to allow people to turn in weapons without being prosecuted for illegal gun possession.
Gun dealers are not eligible to participate.
Those who wish to turn in a gun this weekend must follow this exact protocol:
- Firearms must be delivered unloaded.
- Firearms must be put into a clear plastic bag and then put into another container, i.e. bag, box, backpack ext.
- When transporting a firearm by car, the firearm must be unloaded and transported in the trunk of a car.
- Weapons with ammo will be turned over to the Connecticut State Police to be destroyed.
The department is willing to buy back handguns, rifles, shotguns, and magazines that can hold more than 10 rounds, air rifles, BB guns, pellet guns and antique weapons.
The department is offering $10.00 for air rifles, BB guns, Pellet guns, Antique Firearms, and guns that don't work.
Working rifles or shotguns can be exchanged for up to $300.00.
Pre-ban assault rifles can be exchanged for up to $750.00, post-ban assault rifles can be exchanged for $500.00.
Magazines capable of holding over ten rounds can be exchanged for $20.00.
The gun buyback program is funded through private donations. Those wishing to contribute to this program may send their donations to Ridgefield Police Department, 76 East Ridge Road, Ridgefield, Ct. Checks should be made payable to the Gun Buy Program, Friends of Ridgefield, a nonprofit 501( C) (3) organization.
