JUST MOVED: Meet the van Bergen Family

HamletHub has teamed up with Personal Touch Welcome so that we can introduce our readers to Ridgefield's newest residents. Perhaps you notice that you work in the same industry, you share a love of animals, or you both originate from the same city or state. We hope you will take the opportunity to connect with those who have decided to call Ridgefield home.

Today, we introduce to you to Rebecca and Chris van Bergen and their 10-month-old daughter, Ella.

Tell us a little about your family and occupations

Chris & I actually work together for a nonprofit that I founded called Nest (www.buildanest.org). We help develop artisan businesses in emerging economies though business training, safer working conditions and, most importantly, through relationships with retailers such us the luxury fashion line, Maiyet, Anthropologie, ABC Carpet and more. This ensures that the artisans do not just receive training and expeirene, but also have stable employment and increased orders.

We love being able to work together and excited to raise our children to see how small the world is and how large an impact even just individuals can have!

Do you have children? What ages are they or grade in school? Names?

Yes, one daughter, Ella, age 10 months. She is in daycare at Children's Corner.

Do you have pets?

Nope- our work means a pretty crazy travel schedule!

Where did you move from?

Park Slope, Brooklyn

What brought you to Ridgefield?

We love the country out here – it is beautiful. And, coming from the city, it felt amazing to take deep breaths in the fresh air. We look forward to being able to enjoy the benefits of the city nearby but let our growing family have a bit more room to roam & explore. Not to mention get their fingers dirty in our backyard!

Do you have a special, memorable or funny story about your move?

I think house hunting with a baby is a pretty hilarious undertaking....we knew we found the home of our dreams when we both loved it and Ella slept through the entire viewing.

And then we were immediately felt so welcomed by our neighbors, who brought over baked goods before we even unpacked one box. Chris and I looked at each other and said, "is this place real?".

What do you love most about Ridgefield?

We love how much there is to do! We continue to be amazed by how many fun things are happening in Ridgefield and the surrounding areas. Coming from the city, we thought it might be the quiet country. But, no! You get the peace of the country with the buzz of activity that comes from an engaged community – what a perfect balance!

What Ridgefield organizations or activities are your family excited about?

All the things there are to do outside – the gardens, hikes, sanctuaries! We also love all the art and culture – that we have the Aldrich and the Playhouse in town is incredible! And we cannot wait for the warm summer months and concerts in the park.

On behalf of all of us at HamletHub, welcome to Ridgefield!
