Martha Talburt Art Exhibit and Poetry at Keeler Tavern Museum’s Cass Gilbert Carriage Barn

Artist and poet Martha Talburt will have a one-woman show, “Faces & Places,” at the Keeler Tavern Museum’s Cass Gilbert Carriage Barn. Opening with a reception on Friday, March 6, 6:00 to 9:00 PM, and continuing through Sunday, March 15, the show will feature portraits in a variety of media; landscape and still-life paintings; and whimsical decorative items, made out of stone, depicting two- and four-legged subjects.

Against the backdrop of her art, Ms. Talburt will also offer a reading of her poetry on Friday, March 13, at 7:00 PM. Kid-friendly timing, content and refreshments make the reading suitable for the whole family.

Martha Talburt has been an artist for most of her adult life. She studied at the Art Students League and teaches art at Ridgefield’s Founder’s Hall and Wilton Continuing Education. She is giving a portion of the show’s proceeds to help fund the Museum’s ongoing restoration and upgrading of the Cass Gilbert Carriage Barn as a multipurpose, year-round space for private events, exhibits, and educational programming.

“I’m a maker,” Ms. Talburt says. “I love putting my hand to any creative/artistic project—paintings, portraits, drawings, children, poems, dinner—and am delighted  that in sharing my art with the larger community in this way, I will also be supporting the Museum.”

“Faces & Places” will be open Fri., March 6, 6:00-9:00 PM; Sat. and Sun. Mar. 7 and 8, 11:00 AM-4:00 PM; Wed., Mar. 11, 11:00 AM-4:00 PM; Fri., Mar. 13, 11:00 AM -4:00 PM; and Sat. and Sun., Mar. 14 and 15, 11:00 AM-4:00 PM. Admission is free.

The Keeler Tavern Museum, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, presents three centuries of the region’s history through the lives of the families that occupied the site starting in 1713. It offers docent-led tours of its period-furnished building Feb. 28 through December 31. Its Cass Gilbert-designed garden is open to the public year ‘round, except during private events.
