Not so long ago, Madeleine Peyroux was an American in Paris – busking on the city streets. She has gone on to gain international acclaim for her versions of folk tunes and jazz standards, playing to sold-out crowds. Touring in support of her latest release Keep Me In Your Heart for A While - - The Best of Madeleine Peyroux, she returns to the The Ridgefield Playhouse on Tuesday, June 23, at 8 p.m., in an intimate trio configuration of voice, guitar and bass. The program presents her most beloved songs including Edith Piaf’s “La Vie En Rose,” Randy Newman’s “Guilty” and Warren Zevon’s “Keep Me In Your Heart.” No. 109 Cheese & Wine will serve a complimentary wine tasting at a local artist’s reception in the lobby at 7:15 p.m. Piccolo’s Jazzeria (24 Prospect Street, Ridgefield) is offering a free glass of wine with dinner when tickets are presented. This show is part of the No. 109 Cheese & Wine Evening of Art, Wine and Jazz Series with media sponsor WFUV 90.7fm.
Through intensely distinctive renditions of old classics and modern tunes by the likes of Leonard Cohen and The Beatles, Peyroux has proven to be an insightful interpreter with a consistently impeccable choice of material. Peyroux sheds a striking new light on familiar musical gems while making each phrase and croon her very own, and some say “creating new classics along the way.” Listening to Peyroux, you’ll hear echoes of some the greatest singers of all time – Patsy Cline, Bob Dylan, Bessie Smith and Billie Holiday to whom she’s often compared.
