
John D. Kearns
John D. Kearns, 90, of Ridgefield, entered into eternal life on August 10, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 12, 1925 in New York City, the son of the late John and Madeline (Smith) Kearns. He was a Golden Gloves boxer who was training at Stillman’s Gym, when at the age of 17 enlisted in the US Navy to serve our country in World War II in the Pacific aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard (CV-31) as a corpsman. Following the end of the war, he returned home to New York where he met and married the love of his life, Nancy Donovan and remained in New York city raising their four daughters in the Catholic school system, instilling in them a deep love of their Catholic faith.
John was a Lieutenant in FDNY where he faithfully served for 30 years. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church, the Knights of Columbus and was a devout son of St. Francis as a member of the Secular Franciscan Order of the Holy Family in Katonah. John is predeceased by his beloved wife Nancy, and will be deeply missed by his four devoted daughters: Kathy (Mike) Foley of Brick, NJ; Jacklyn (Kevin) Bartlett of Farmington, NM; Nancy (John) Carson of Pound Ridge, NY and Gerri Kearns of Ridgefield, CT; seven grandchildren: Daniel, Kathy Ann, Michael, Jo-Ann, Lauren, Stephanie and Nicole, and nine great grandchildren: Katie, Ryan, Anna, Erin, Molly, Mia, Brielle, Madelyn and Lily.
