Ridgefield Republicans Endorse Peter Chipouras, John Katz & Mark Zeck for the P & Z Commission

The Ridgefield Republican Party is proud to endorse Peter Chipouras, John Katz and Mark Zeck for the Planning & Zoning Commission. All three candidates possess the ideal mix of business expertise and commitment to community necessary meet the challenges of balancing Ridgefield's growth and preserving its natural and historic beauty.

Peter C Chipouras

A lifelong republican, Peter Chipouras was elected to the Planning & Zoning Commission in 2004. He also served as Vice-Chair of the Municipal Building Committee, Ridgefield little league coach and division Manager, and Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus. Chipouras is currently a member of the AGOC Parish Council.

“In my diverse career, I have been involved in the renovation of the Library of Congress and the New York Stock Exchange. In 1992 I went to the Russian “White House” where I met with Boris Yeltsin, Eduard Shevardnadze and other officials as part of a private American delegation interested in trade with Russia,” Chipouras explains.

Chipouras believes that the biggest issue facing Planning & Zoning Commission is State Statute 8-30g – a statute for Affordable Housing. “These issues should be addressed with local regulation, not state mandates. Children who have grown up here and empty nesters want to live in Ridgefield. I want to see Ridgefield maintain its small town charm, with a vibrant Main Street and housing that meets the needs of all our residents without excessive density or negative impact to our natural resources,” he says.

John Katz

Elected to the Commission in 1978, John Katz is proud of his stellar attendance, “I’ve missed one meeting out of approximately 1550 held.”

Katz has spent 25 years on Ridgefield’s Youth Commission, and has served on the Town's drug & alcohol use prevention Coalition. He is currently director of the Town's Youth Service Bureau, a Counseling agency. “I care about this Town, and take my work very seriously,” says Katz.

Katz believe that the most challenging issue facing the Planning & Zoning Commission is how to modify the current Affordable Housing Appeals statute. “We need to get back some of the Zoning authority usurped when the statute was established, and get the State to agree, he explains. “Our work on this will continue this fall, as we acknowledge the need for affordable housing while regaining control over the density of units.”

Mark Zeck

An intelligent civic-minded family man and attorney, Mark Zeck began serving on the Zoning Board of Appeals of Derby, CT in 2007 and became its Chair in 2008 until February 2014 when he and his family moved to Ridgefield.

Zeck  has extensive experience in addressing local and state public policy issues and is a present member of a Connecticut state committee. He is a highly effective advocate who knows how to work productively with federal, state, and local government agencies; corporations and foreign governments to achieve necessary objectives.

“I want to be a member of the Ridgefield Planning and Zoning Commission in appreciation for our town and all that it has given to my family,” says Zeck.  “I do not wish to change Ridgefield but rather protect it from the increasing traffic, and urban sprawl that threatens our tranquil village,” he explains.
