, passed away on November 20, 2015, surrounded by his family in his home in Ridgefield, CT.
Born to his parents, Macks and Waltraut Neumann, Harry was born and spent his very early childhood in Danzig, Germany. In 1938 he immigrated to the USA through Ellis Island and then back to Germany in 1949 where he honed his skills on his passion with photography. Having become a US Citizen and upon his return to the United States, Harry was recruited by the United States Coast Guard which he proudly served.
After that he worked at Sikorsky Aircraft in the photographic lab department where he excelled. While there he received numerous National and State proclamations for his saving of many lives by hanging from helicopters rescuing many people during the massive 1955 floods
After meeting the love of his life they were married September 18, 1954 and spent their early years together in Milford, Connecticut before moving the family to Ridgefield in 1964. In 1969, Harry and Lorraine started Harry H. Neumann Associates (Neumann Real Estate).
Harry is survived by his six children, Chip Neumann and wife Pam, Russ Neumann and wife Holly, Jeff Neumann and wife Mary, Janet Neumann and fiancé Jim Wilson, Bob Neumann, Shaylene Neumann Kelley and husband Joe; fifteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Harry was predeceased less than four months ago by his soul mate and wife of 60 years Lorraine, along with his parents and also dear daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Neumann.
Harry was a special person who touched the heart of many and had a profound impact on everyone. His gifts of humor, giving and at the same time humility were so obvious to all people who he met throughout his incredible life. Even through his long battle with cancer he never complained and always felt grateful for his family and friends.
In addition to Ridgefield, Harry and Lorraine resided in Marco Island, Florida and Truro, Massachusetts for many years. To the special friends he leaves behind everywhere, we thank you for your kindness, love and friendship. Thanks for being you.
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Jesse Lee Memorial United Methodist Church, 207 Main Street in Ridgefield, Connecticut. Friends will be received at Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield, Connecticut on Monday, November 23, 2014 from 4 to 8 PM. A short Masonic Service of which Harry was a Past Master
will take place at 7:30 PM at the funeral home.
