Dr. Steven Phillips to speak at Ridgefield Town Hall on Saturday
Steven Phillips, MD a Yale-trained physician, will discuss how the body's ability to rid itself of abnormal proteins may be harnessed as a treatment for a variety of diseases that effect the brain and nervous system. The program, "Autophagy, Cure or Curse?" will be presented on Saturday, December 5 at Ridgefield Town Hall, from 7 to 9 pm.
Dr Phillips will discuss autophagy, a cellular clearance mechanism whereby abnormal proteins can be cleared from the body and the potential therapeutic ramifications for the treatment of a range of disease states. These diseases include neurodegenerative illnesses which are hallmarked by the accumulation of proteins, such as Alzheimer's Dementia, Parkinson's, Lewy Body Dementia, Frontotemporal Dementia, and ALS. This mechanism will be examined from a number of aspects that are all on the same biologic axis, which include aging and cancer.
