RHS Alumni Hockey Game honors Erik F. Hoag

It’s that time of year again… the annual Erik F. Hoag Alumni Hockey Game at the Winter Garden Ice Arena.

In keeping with tradition, the game will be held on Friday, November 25, at 10 a.m., and all former Ridgefield High School players are invited to test their skills against the school’s current Varsity Ice Hockey team! Please also RSVP by clicking here.

For returning Alumni there is a practice session on Thanksgiving Day (November 24) from 8:10-9:40 a.m.  Alumni who would like to participate should arrive at least 30 minutes before each session and should complete the registration form found here.

The RHS Varsity Team plays the returning Alumni in a non-checking, fun game that is also a fundraiser for the Erik Hoag Scholarship Fund. This scholarship is awarded to a current senior at the RHS Senior Awards Night in June. The annual Alumni Game has been a way to gather all the alumni, as well as raise money for the scholarship fund.  Money is raised by charging the alumni a fee to play in the game and by selling raffle tickets during the game. Many of the alumni add an extra donation to the $50 fee, and incoming high school players are asked sell the 50/50 raffle tickets.

Friends, fans and Ridgefielders are invited to this fun morning of friendship, games and rivalry… you can even get a first glance at the current RHS Varsity team!

The game is named in honor of Erik F. Hoag, who played hockey in the Ridgefield youth and high school systems.  Erik constantly provided a sense of teamwork, competitive spirit and fun on the ice; and made the game special for all his teammates.

In 1996 the Erik F. Hoag Memorial Scholarship was established at Ridgefield High School, by the Hoag Family and the RHS Boys Hockey Booster Club.  The scholarship is awarded yearly to the senior who best exemplifies a winning attitude, an abounding love of the game of ice hockey and promoting camaraderie among team players.
