Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Let’s make 2018 a big year for our Ridgefield small businesses and put a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community.

Three questions with Robert Byrnes, co-owner of The Cake Box

Why did you start your business?

We started the business because after Jordan had been home with kids for 10 years, she decided it was time to rejoin the workforce and enrolled in pastry school at The Institute for Culinary Education (aka ICE). Afterwards, she and I started to make custom cakes at home for friends and family which was a nice combination of her baking expertise and my artistic skills.  The idea for the retail store was just an idea which led to just looking at a space, which led to just signing a lease and the rest is history

Finish this sentence in regard to your business. “I wish I could…”

I wish we could eventually open a commercial kitchen to feed various retail locations and thereby increase our production capacity.

Best selling product/service?

Our best selling product is still the sweet & salty cupcake.  The red velvet and the chocolate chip cookies (both regular and gluten-free) are close runners-up.
