You're IT Ridgefield Family Eye Care!
Three questions with Dr. Eric Bran of Ridgefield Family Eye Care.
Why did you start your business?
Our practice was started 45 years ago with the goal of providing the best in eye care using the latest in technology. We’ve grown significantly, yet we still focus on getting to know our patients and providing the best for them in a comfortable, unhurried environment. We really enjoy our work and being involved in the community, both as a business and as individuals. As everyone knows, Ridgefield has so much to offer and it’s what drew the doctors here. Taking care of families and seeing them out around town is always enjoyable.
Finish this sentence in regard to your business. “I wish I could…”
Increase awareness of vision-related learning problems. We really want parents and educators to understand how vision can affect so many aspects of a child’s life. It’s estimated that 80% of what kids learn in school is through their visual system. Good eyesight is only one component of how the eyes work, but the only one tested in vision screenings. Poor eye coordination, focusing difficulties and problems with how the brain understands what it sees, often go undiagnosed. These problems can affect performance in school and sports. Learning or behavioral problems can sometimes be vision problems in disguise. We really want parents and educators to understand how vision can affect so many aspects of a child’s life.
With the increased use of computers and digital devices, vision problems, eye strain and exposure to blue light are growing issues. Eyewear for computer use to block blue light and relax a person’s focus can be extremely helpful. Providing eyeglasses and contact lenses is very “traditional” optometry, and over the years the practice has shifted toward the medical side of eye care. We are very focused on two areas in particular: treating patients with dry eye and slowing the progression of nearsightedness in children (myopia control). By slowing the increase in prescription as they get older, we can potentially stop a child from becoming very nearsighted and dependent on glasses or contact lenses throughout their life.
