Yesterday, Local Connecticut website released their list of “20 Bookstores To Visit In Connecticut” and, it’s no surprise that Books on the Common made the list of Connecticut destination small town bookstores.
The article says, “In the age of online shopping sometimes it’s easy to overlook the small shops that exist in the local communities...we’ll list 20 bookstores we think are worth the visit.”
Books on the Common, located at 404 Main Street in downtown Ridgefield, is owned by Ellen Burns and Darwin Ellis who purchased the bookstore from Bob and Sally Silbernagel in 2004 and moved it from Copps Hill Common to its current home on Main Street in 2009.
In December 2014, Books on the Common was one of 159 independent bookstores nationwide to receive a grant from James Patterson and in December 2016, Ellen and Darwin were recipients of the Ridgefield Library’s Paccadolmi Award, honoring members of the community for their dedication to the Library and its patrons.
The indie bookstore has thrived in its downtown Ridgefield location - buzzing with locals and visitors, especially during peak shopping days and weekends.
Fairfield County bookstores that also made Local Connecticut’s list:
- Barrett Bookstore in Darien
- Byrd’s Books in Bethel
- Diane’s Books of Greenwich
