Meet Ridgefield Resident and RVNA Marketing Associate, Lisa Fleming

One of the unfortunate parts of being on the RVNA marketing team — perhaps the only one! — is that when it comes time to be the Staffer of the Week, you have to prepare the whole darn thing yourself. Which really isn’t fair!

But if you’re Lisa Fleming, and your instinct is to solve the problem and get the job done well (and speedily), you probably don’t complain. You just . . . get the job done well. And then move on to the next. With equanimity, and good sense, and a good sense of humor.

Which is precisely why when anybody at RVNA hears Lisa’s name, they get that fond, smiley look in their eye and they say, “Lisa Fleming? I LOVE Lisa Fleming.”

And so will you.

Where did you grow up and where do you live now?
I grew up in a suburb outside Minneapolis and now live in Ridgefield. I made a few stops along the way in Arizona, California, and New York.

How long have you been at RVNA?
I joined RVNA in the Fall of 2015.

What brought you here?
At the time, I was a mom of two busy middle-schoolers and in search of a flexible role that combined my marketing skills with my interest in photography.

Describe your role at RVNA
I currently work as a marketing associate and staff photographer. In this role, I help support RVNA’s marketing initiatives and assist in planning and executing our marketing and communications programs.

What is your favorite part of your job?
Each November, we begin planning for our annual RVNA Spelling Bee. This year the 8th annual will be held on Wednesday, March 6 at The Ridgefield Playhouse. I really enjoy this event because it brings the community together for a fun, family-friendly evening of spelling competition while benefitting a great cause…RVNA Nursing Education. Plus, it’s really entertaining to plan it.  (Speaking of which, you should come and bring your family… you can buy your tickets here.)

What do you love to do when you’re not working?
Gathering with family and friends, enjoying walks with my husband and kids on crisp fall days, watching my kids do what they love to do, traveling pretty much anywhere, cooking anything from scratch and sleeping in on weekends…all the simple pleasures of life.

What is your hidden talent?
It truly is hidden as I haven’t had any time to even think about this lately…but I love interior design and space planning, something I picked up from the amazing women in my family.  We all enjoy reorganizing a space, picking colors, adding accessories, and sharing inspiration for next steps.

What would you do if you won the lottery?
Outside of jumping for joy? That’s easy. I would share the wealth! And then surprise my extended family with the purchase of the lake house our grandparents built years ago in northern MN. I would continue to invest, donate, travel. Buy a new lens…

Do you have a favorite RVNA moment or story?
Last summer, I had the pleasure of visiting with a local patient to take his photograph for our annual report. He was an endearing man…warm, friendly and so appreciative of the care RVNA was providing him. I saw a life well-lived in the photographs surrounding him in his living room. His interests, his loves, and the wealth of his years were all in sight. I was humbled by his generous spirit and willingness to share his stories. I won’t forget him.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve received?
Trust your intuition. And then act on it! It’s one of the benefits of getting older.

What is the one food you could eat every day of the year?
A spinach salad with grilled chicken. Maybe some amazing dark chocolate. I guess that’s three. How can anyone pick just one?
