Ridgefield Coronavirus Update: Town Urges Social Distancing, Daycare Centers Open, One Resident Tests Positive

RIDGEFIELD, CT; March 17: 10AM:  Ridgefield continues to be proactive as we fight the spread of coronavirus.  We ask that all residents adhere to the federal, state and local requirements as we fight the spread of this disease together.  I ask that you all take care of each other by being respectful of the requirements that have been put in place to protect our community.

One thing I’d like to really stress is the practice of social distancing.  It is the only way we are going to keep “ahead of the wave” as Governor Lamont said in our briefing last night.

Here are our updates:

  1. A COVID-19 update with First Selectman Rudy Marconi, Health Director Ed Briggs, and Emergency Management director Dick Aarons held a meeting yesterday at 4 PM to update the community and to take questions.   The meeting can be streamed at your leisure HERE. Many of the questions you might ask are answered there.
  2. Day care centers will currently remain open.
  3. Curfews: No curfews are in place at this point in time.
  4. All Town buildings are closed to the public.  Town personnel will continue to try to meet your needs so call your department of interest with questions.  For further info
  5. Danbury Hospital has opened a mobile testing site with specific protocol for testing.  Please call the Danbury Hospital: 888-667-9262.
  6. Ridgefield has already had one positive test and we expect that number to grow.
  7. Original protocol for testing remains in place.  The first step is to contact your primary care provider and follow recommendations.  Any test being conducted must have a prescription from your doctor.
  8. Governor Lamont has ordered all restaurants, and bars closed for all table service.  You can still support your local businesses by taking advantage of restaurant take out programs and other initiatives created by your favorite town shops.  Most have put alternative shopping opportunities in place so call them.    Call your retailers to set up a private appointment.
  9. Stop and Shop reports that they have a steady stream of deliveries.  The chain of supply will only be stressed if hoarding continues to take place.
  10. Please avoid play dates, any gatherings and large crowds especially today, St. Patrick’s Day.
  11. For information on the food pantry, please call Social Services 203-431-2777.
  12. Feeling better does not necessarily mean you are free of the virus.  In order to be 100% sure you are clear, you need to test negative twice.
  13. The Office of Emergency Management on Facebook continues to relay information and to answer questions.  Go to www.ridgefieldct.org and ridgefieldoem on Facebook.
  14. Please check on your neighbors with a phone call, especially those most vulnerable.  Compassionate Ridgefield, The Neighbors Helping Neighbors project will help those Ridgefielders who may need a friendly ear or someone to pick up groceries.  Email: compassionproject06877@gmail.com with Senior Ridgefielder in the subject line OR call 203-431-7000 and leave your information.  Volunteers for the project-please email.
  15.  Please go to the Town of Ridgefield website www.ridgefieldct.org for a list of important local phone numbers.
  16. Our Town Emergency Operations Center is now on full virtual activation.
