High School Seniors in Ridgefield Celebrated Through Adopt a Senior Project

The Ridgefield Adopt a Senior Project is seeking more seniors to “ADOPT” (and spoil!) through the end of the school year!

High school senior year – traditions, prom, internships, graduation ... for many of us these are what we remember most about our final days in high school.  A special time to solidify those bonds with close friends.  Sadly the class of 2020 will not have the opportunity to experience so many of these rites of passage that many of us remember so fondly.

I am not the parent of a high school senior, nor am I affiliated with the Class of 2020 in any way.  I was feeling truly sad for the senior class missing out on so many of the big milestones which typically mark senior year. I kept thinking that we needed to do something for this class.

In late April, a friend from California posted a picture on Facebook of a care package she was giving to a senior she had “adopted”.   I immediately reached out to ask what this was all about.  After speaking with her, I realized that what she was involved with was exactly the type of project I was looking for, and something I felt certain that the caring town of Ridgefield would fully embrace.

I established a Facebook group (Ridgefield CT Adopt a Senior) and invited a few Ridgefield friends to join and encouraged them to share the group with their friends in town.  It's been about 10 days since its inception and group is now up to 600+ Ridgefield members with over 140 seniors already adopted!

We have so many in the community eager to “adopt” and brighten the Class of 2020's remaining high school days.  We are hoping that many more parents and caregivers of Class of 2020 students will put their seniors up for 'adoption' so that our community can shower them with lots of love, and make the final weeks of their senior year full of surprises and great memories. In fact, the last 2 days the seniors put up for adoption have lasted mere seconds before they were adopted by a member of our community.  It’s been so exciting to be a part of!

This program is geared toward all Class of 2020 seniors residing in Ridgefield, regardless of which high school they may attend.
