Ah, the sweet sound of the crack of a bat returns to Ridgefield's Governor's Park field

The crack of the bat can once again be heard over at Governor's Park.  Though the American Legion Baseball season was canceled due to the Coronavirus, the Fairfield County Baseball League was formed as an independent league by Legion teams from around the county - and baseballs are flying!

Last night the team pulled away in the late innings to walk away with a 5-1 win.  Jack Gonzalez, Johnny Briody and Matt Colucci combined on the hill to pitch a 3 hit performance.  Timely hits by Justin Leonard, Colucci, Briody (2), Justin Keller and Alex Hanna (2), were enough for the Thunderbirds to take a 2-1 lead into the 7th, and then tack on a few insurance runs.  Hanna tripled and scored the go ahead run in the 5th.

The Ridgefield Post 78 team is currently 3-3 on the season and plays the rubber game against Wilton tonight at Governor's Park at 5:30. The team hosts Greenwich this weekend at The Gov for a doubleheader on Saturday that starts at 9 AM.
