Did you know? When the pandemic forced the Playhouse to close their doors, they remained committed to bringing their Arts in Education programs to schools and did so virtually.
Please read the message below from Ridgefield Playhouse Executive Director, Allison Stockel
This year has been a difficult one for all of us. However, as 2020 draws to a close, I know we have a lot to be grateful for. The Playhouse, for one, is still here! That is a testament to our many supporters, members, and donors as well as our incredible staff who managed to pivot and regroup with every twist and turn set before us. As the pandemic brought many of our lives to a halting stop, people turned to the arts to weather the storm and get through the isolation, the sadness, and the fear.
Here at The Playhouse, we made sure that we never stopped presenting the arts. We immediately started to offer free streaming content and even managed to finish our Arts in Education programing virtually. We helped present drive-in movies free for the community, and did socially distanced outdoor shows under a tent and in the park. We produced creative ways to do hybrid shows with limited capacity indoors while also streaming the show for those who continued to shelter in place.
We created a safe environment inside so we could continue to show our films, Met Opera, Bolshoi Ballet and National Theater as soon as the state said it was okay to do so. We worked with the restaurants, other nonprofits, and local businesses to come up with creative ways to promote one another and keep our local economy afloat. We still have a long road ahead, and there is still a lot unknown. But I am confident that we will survive. The Ridgefield Playhouse is too important to our community not to survive.
So, as you celebrate this holiday season, whether it’s lighting the candles on your Menorah or your Kinara or putting presents under your tree - we hope you have a wonderful Holiday season and a joyous new year.
Here’s to 2021 when we can all gather again and enjoy singing, laughter, and music together. Until then, we will continue to do what we do for our community and spread love, creativity, and happiness through the performing arts. We thank you for your ongoing support of the arts and our mission.
