Will Guy Fieri stop in Ridgefield for eggs benedict on a potato pancake?
Yesterday, Willie Geist, host of the “Sunday Sitdown” podcast welcomed one of the world’s most recognizable and influential culinary stars - Guy Fieri who spoke about his fundraising efforts to feed frontline workers and help restaurant employees during the pandemic, his new Food Network show, and the future of the restaurant industry.
During the hour-long podcast, Fieri gave a shout-out to Ridgefield’s Early Bird Cafe, specifically pointing out one of the diner's breakfast offerings that he is yearning to try.
Geist asks Fieri, “Local diners have no margin for error, to begin with. So, how are you feeling about an American diner, an American restaurant now that it’s been a full year of keeping their heads above water...what does the future look like for them?”
Before Fieri answers that question, what pops into his head is a memorable diner meal, and, knowing Geist lives in our neck of the woods, he says, “What is that place (by you) that serves eggs benedict on a potato pancake?”
Without hesitation, Geist says, “The Early Bird Cafe in Ridgefield, Connecticut”.
Fieri responds, “I gotta make a note of it because I’m coming your way!”
Fieri went on to say, "The climate of the restaurant industry as we know it will change forever... but what so amazing about restaurant owners and chefs and people who love this industry is that we adapt and overcome. The only thing that will prepare you for the television world would be the restaurant industry."
