Ridgefield Library Presents: The Forbidden City and the Great Wall of China

Toni McKeen will deliver an online lecture at the Ridgefield Library on the Forbidden City and the Great Wall of China on Thursday, July 29th at 4:00 p.m.

McKeen will describe the Forbidden City, a palace complex at the center of the Imperial City of Beijing that is surrounded by opulent gardens and temples. Constructed from 1406 to 1420, it was the former Chinese imperial palace and winter residence of the Emperor of China from the Ming Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty in 1924. She will also talk about the Great Wall of China, a series of fortifications built across the historical northern borders of ancient Chinese states and Imperial China as protection against various nomadic groups from the Eurasian Steppe. Toni McKeen lectures widely on art, history, travel, and genealogy.
