RVNAhealth announces Tiffany Sanders, M.D. is new Hospice Medical Director
Dr. Sanders earned her B.A. in Biology from the University of Virginia and her M.D. at Drexel University School of Medicine. She completed her residency at MCP-Hahnemann University in Internal Medicine and her post-Doctoral clinical fellowship at Johns Hopkins University in Geriatric Medicine.
"Working with patients and their loved ones at end of life is a privilege gleaned from personal insight," says Dr. Sanders.
Early in her career as a physician, Dr. Sanders lost her own father from cancer when he was just 59 years old. The loss transformed her perspective as a physician because she first learned to navigate death and the healthcare system as a patient’s loved one.
Her father’s resistance to acceptance left her with a deep desire to help patients and their families navigate end of life with dignity and comfort, cornerstones of the hospice philosophy. As such, despite her love for applying the science of medicine, Dr. Sanders has a heartfelt connection with those her expertise serves. “Navigating healthcare as a loved one was very different than being the one in the white coat,” she says. “It was life-changing and left me with a deep desire to be there for dying patients as well as their families. I lived through it, so when I say, ‘I understand,’ I really do.”
