Why ACT of CT Matters: 4 Questions with Daniel C. Levine, Artistic Director

Why Ridgefield Nonprofits Matter: ACT of CT

Step inside ACT of CT!

Four questions with Daniel C. Levine, Artistic Director ACT of CT.

Why did you start ACT of Connecticut?

We made the decision to open ACT of CT because we truly wanted to continue to elevate the level of theater in Fairfield County. Our town (Ridgefield) already had so many wonderful artistic and cultural organizations - but did not have a professional Equity theater with its own venue (Equity being the union for all professional actors and stage managers). We knew that we would be able to create a theater that would attract top-level Broadway talent, and one that our community would value and support. Simply put, we wanted to "bring Broadway to our backyard".  Our community is one that understands the important role that theater/art/culture/entertainment play in a thriving society and we wanted to add to the fabric of our town. And we are glad we did!

What is your best-selling product/service?

Certainly, our main stage productions are audience favorites (shows like Mamma Mia, Evita, Little Shop of Horrors, Godspell, Austen's Pride, Smokey Joe's Cafe (to name a few). But our "special events" (like our Broadway Unplugged Series) tend to sell out almost immediately - so it is clear that our patrons love those as well. Our 'Sensory Friendly performances' (performance specifically dedicated to our patrons with sensory sensitivities) are always full, and our Educational Programs (Conservatory, camp, choir, etc.) often have a waiting list!! So, I suppose it is hard to decide what our "best selling product" is !!!

How many local businesses do you use to support your ACT of CT (products and services) and can you name them?

Ridgefield Hardware, Ridgefield Supply, Deborah Anne's, Squash's, The Cake Box, The Village Lantern, Books On The Common, Rodier Florists, Bareburger Ridgefield, Mulvaney Plumbing and Heating, Reynolds & Rowella Accounting, Jonathan Svec Piano tuning, Jeff Butchen Photography, Ridgefield Media, Adam Broderick Salon, Ridgefield Thrift Shop, Fairfield County Bank, HamletHub, Gallo Ristorante, Sarah's Wine Bar, 109 Cheese and Wine, Nature's Temptations, West Lane Inn, The Fountain Inn, M&T Bank, Nutmeg Livery, Bates Limo, Vine & Co., Whip Salon, Terra Sole, Tusk and Cup Fine Coffee, New England Landscaping, National Charity League, City Wide Building Solutions, The Ridgefield Press, Hearst Media, United Alarm, Michelle Williams Photography, WSHU, WMNR.

Have you "reimagined" since ACT of CT's founding in 2018?

We pride ourselves on "reimagining" theatrical productions  - and since "theater" is our business, then, in a sense, we are always reimagining our business. In terms of reimagining the company: we continue to create new programs (and opportunities) for employees, interns, students, and patrons. The interesting (and fun) "thing" about our theater is that each season (each year) presents an opportunity to create and expand our programming, productions, outreach, and partnerships. We are constantly "reimagining”.

ACT of CT is located at 36 Old Quarry Road in Ridgefield.
