‘Ridgefield is growing and so are we’
With a commitment to preserve Ridgefield’s historic community center ‘for the use and benefit of all,’ the Board of Directors and staff of Lounsbury House are proud to announce initial plans to redevelop its interior lower-level space and the back landscape to better serve, attract, and entertain area residents for a wide range of community and private events.
Plans are already underway with the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra and Ridgefield Guild of Artists for artful outdoor events such as Music at the Mansion and recreational sculpture garden. A farmer’s market featuring CT grown foods sourced locally including The Hickories (birthplace of Phineas Lounsbury) is also being planned as well as entertainment with local emerging artists and other celebratory events. This Community Garden & Patio will be supported by interior lower-level amenities for the comfort of guests and help limit excess foot traffic within the main level of the 126-year-old National Historic Site.
“The last two years have inspired new ways of thinking, collaborating, and adapting for many of us, with Lounsbury House working hard alongside dozens of other non-profits and local orgs as a community partner through it all,’ said Suzanne Brennan, Executive Director. ‘We have been resilient – growing and challenging ourselves while serving this town we love so much – and look forward to a reimagined 2023 and beyond.”
Lounsbury House, built in 1896 by CT’s 35th Governor Phineas Lounsbury, is a 501(c)3 organization with a Board of Directors
and small staff who assume complete financial responsibility for its operation and preservation. Membership, annual appeals, fundraising events
and House rentals help offset the mounting costs of care and restoration for this National Historic Site.
