Three questions with Gwynne Faircloth, founder of Pepper Street Pets.
Why did you start your business?
Pepper Street Pets is a professional pet care company that serves the Ridgefield area by providing midday visits, vacation care, and adventure outings (private and small groups). The business, founded by Gwynne Faircloth of Ridgefield, is bonded, insured, pet first aid certified, and supports many local causes and groups in town - from Adopt-a-Street to purchasing trees for the Rec Center walking path.
I started a career in pet care because it was so difficult to find someone with pet knowledge and experience to care for my dogs when they weren't able to travel with me. I've been in the position of needing someone trusted, and reliable and knowing my dogs are in safe hands -- that's what I now provide to all my clients.
What is your best-selling product/service?
I think what resonates most with people is the one-on-one connection and personalization of the pet care provided. Whether it's a visit during the workday, an adventure outing around town or on the trails, or staying with pets for vacation coverage -- that element is constant and sets us apart.
Have you "reimagined" your small business?
During the stay-at-home and work-from-home timeframe, we were very fortunate to be able to continue providing visits and our field trip service became really popular. Taking the dogs to a new spot in town, whether our open space areas, a hiking trail, an athletic field or walking along Main Street, really provided a physical and mental boost for them and led me to create an additional service of small, curated group outings for dogs. That's something we're excited to fully roll out and share with dogs in our area.
