Lasell University Women's Volleyball: Lasers split in doubleheader at home

The Lasell Women's Volleyball team hosted a tri-match at the Athletic Center with Regis College and the University of Saint Joseph's Maine. They split between the two matches with the Pride of Regis sneaking the first match after trailing 2-0 in sets winning it in an intense 5 set match and then ultimately getting vengeance by sweeping the Monks of SJC.

Sydney Katz of Ridgefield makes 26 assists, 5 service aces!

Match 1

The Lasers and the Pride traded blows in the 1st set as both teams registered 9 kills apiece in the opening set. However, a costly service error from the Pride gave Lasell a 25-23 first set victory. In the second set, Lasell jumped out to a quick 12-5 lead that jumped to a 17-8 lead, forcing Regis to call a timeout. Regis responded well by keeping the deficit as close as to 2 points but a kill from Juliana Medini (Roxbury, N.J.) gave the Lasers a 2-0 lead. Regis would take control of the third set with 13 team kills after jumping out to a 9-3 lead despite the Lasers keeping it close with 10 team kills as a kill from Ahnasia Mckinney cut the set deficit to 2-1. Early on, it was all Lasell in set 4 as they got an early 13-4 lead on the Pride and stretched it to 20-14. Then, Regis would strike back with 5 straight points of their own to force Lasell to use a timeout. Coming out of the timeout, Lasell tried to gain momentum with 2 points until Regis scored 5 consecutive points to beat the Lasers to force a final 5th set. After gaining the momentum from their previous comeback in set 4, Regis took advantage and capitalized early as they eventually would go on to complete their comeback from 2-0 to defeat Lasell.

Match 2

Set 1 was completely in favor of Lasell as they scored 8 straight points out the gate and never looked back. The Lasers registered 12 kills in the set, and they would win the first set after 3 attack errors were committed in a row by the Monks. The second set was even early on until a 9-8 lead turned into a 19-8 lead as the Lasers gained momentum. McKenna McCool (Loomis, Calif.) would finish the second set with a kill to put Lasell up 2-0. The Monks looked to find a way to crawl back into the match as they fought evenly with the Lasers until the end. A Medini kill would complete the sweep for Lasell as they defeated the Monks.
