Why Small Businesses Matter
Shop small, do big things for your community
Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!
You're IT Smartrise Health!
Three questions with Vanessa Guzman, President of Smartrise Health.
Why did you start your business?
We had a vision to make the world a better place through high-quality, equitable care, community empowerment, and value. So in 2020, at the start of the pandemic, as scary as it sounds, I left my employment as an executive in a hospital in the Bronx and decided that there was no better time than to help our communities, and here we are - three years later, growing in both national and global markets and experiencing the joy of seeing individuals and organizations thrive.
What is your best-selling product/service?
The most common focus areas are helping healthcare and community organizations integrate quality of care standards and health equity framework into the way they deliver or support care. This helps patients, regardless of race, ethnicity, identity, and community - access the care they need and delivered it in a way that matters most to them.
Yes! We learned that changes in social justice and inequities and healthcare come from individuals' behaviors, empowering patients across communities and populations, and building up the right support structures for all of us involved. So the next phase of SmartRise Health is to take these learnings and apply them as a model of care integrated with digital health to engage communities historically marginalized or underserved. Exciting times are ahead!
