The last time Jimy Bishop’s music graced these pages was in March 2021 when Jimy’s songwriting efforts while stuck at home during the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in the release of his hit song “Take It To The Streets”. Jimy was a Ridgefield High School Freshman at the time. Now, as a Junior, he’s at it again.
During RHS Winter Recess this past December, Jimy’s band, Freedom Rockets, began and recently finished recording the band’s soon-to-be-released first full-length album “American Trash”. The album was recorded and produced by American rock ‘n’ roll icon Tommy Stinson.
In addition to being a founding and lifetime member of The Replacements, Stinson was a key second-generation ingredient in Guns N’ Roses and served a seven-year tenure with Soul Asylum. Stinson has also led three critically acclaimed bands of his own: Bash & Pop, Perfect and Cowboys in the Campfire. Freedom Rockets became acquainted with Stinson due to happenstance and a series of serendipitous meetings which led to Tommy producing the band’s record.
Freedom Rockets will preview songs from the new album at the band’s Memorial Day Weekend Showcase this Saturday, May 27, at Factory Underground, 16 Isaacs Street, Norwalk, Connecticut. Doors open at 7:00PM. This is an All Ages show and will be filmed for an upcoming Freedom Rockets video.

Songs on the soon-to-be-released record are written by Jimy in collaboration with local resident and multi-platinum songwriter Frankie Vinci who was a member of the 1970s supergroup Fotomaker. The band also works closely with mentor Richie Scarlet, guitarist/bassist for Frehley’s Comet and Mountain, among others.
Providing support for Freedom Rockets will be local bands “Waiting on Mom” and “Small Pool” which both feature Ridgefield High School students. Waiting on Mom is Kai Fozouni (guitar/vocals), Marko Katra (guitar /vocals), Griffin Smuckler (drums), and Avery Siburn (bass/guitar/vocals). Small Pool is Rohan Connally (Keyboards), Owen LoFaso (drums), and Wyatt Bruch (bass).
