Trachtenberg & Joyce started the SRMS and ERMS GSAs (Gender and Sexuality Alliances) respectively. Joyce gave a moving speech at the event that captivated the audience.
“When I was in middle school, I felt incredibly alone and misunderstood. At one point, I was even outed, and I struggled to come to terms with my own identity. Through founding the ERMS GSA and later helping the creation of Pride in the Park, I was able to not only become more comfortable with myself but help an entire community of kids feel more confident in their own bodies and identities. The current political climate is terrifying, especially for me and my fellow Trans people, and I hope that events like these help in making our communities feel a little safer. “
