What can I say about 1 Parley Lane except…oh…my…goodness! What a gem in the heart of town. The transformation this incredible historic residence has gone through since 2017 is nothing more than exceptional. It has been completely redesigned by the present owners in conjunction with Molly Hirsch Interiors and KKD Architects to create a very livable, contemporary-styled, entertaining gem. I am fortunate to have been chosen to represent the sale of this property listed at $4.5 million with my brokerage, Houlihan Lawrence.
Let’s chat about some of the features:
HISTORY
Named for railroad magnate and long-time Ridgefield resident, William O. Seymour, the property was built in 1886 and exudes a distinguished provenance. Perfectly sequestered between High Ridge Ave and Main Street, the landscaping was designed to naturally maximize privacy by surrounding the property with mature screening trees and dense specimen plantings. It’s a little oasis in the heart of town when you consider you can also enjoy a saltwater pool, relaxing spa, and an inviting pagoda with an outdoor fireplace!
VIBRANT COLOR
Having lived through the decade-long dominance of the millennial grey color scape, it is daunting to think of using any vibrant color in our homes. But 1 Parley Lane – under the expert guidance of Molly Hirsch Interiors – brings whimsical elegance to this classic property. Paint and wallpaper in bright blues and teals pair perfectly with crystal light fixtures, modern plumbing fixtures, and crisp white architectural elements. The result is a perfectly balanced mix of old and new; classic and modern; all thrown together in a blended color palette. Check out the photos accompanying this article to see what I mean…and pay special attention to the teal and white colored parlor!
REDESIGNING FLOW FOR MODERN LIVING
Starting with the front staircase, which was relocated to create a better flow to the upper level, every room was reconfigured in some way. The kitchen was bumped out to create a walk-in pantry, and an old bar area was repurposed as a hallway. The addition of multiple exterior doors and entrances to all areas of the home mean there is easy access to all key areas of the house without having to travel through other spaces. At the rear of the home, a second-floor ceiling was expanded and a staircase moved to create a large mudroom. The ceiling expansion allowed a library and quiet room to be created on the upper level as well. The primary bedroom suite entrance was also redesigned as a better use of space, allowing for multiple closets and built-ins.
