Refugee Resettlement in Ridgefield, community-wide informational session on Sunday, September 24

The Refugee Resettlement in Ridgefield group is holding a community-wide informational session on Sunday, September 24 at 2:00 PM in the Commons at the First Congregational Church in Ridgefield.

Join us to learn more about this town-wide effort and how you can help resettle a family in Ridgefield.  Communities all over the country are helping to resettle families.  This resettlement effort will be Ridgefield’s second.  In 2017, a group helped a Syrian family successfully assimilate into our town.

Resettling a family in a new country and town is a significant effort and requires many hands.  Refugees arrive with virtually no possessions, no homes, jobs, healthcare, and often no English.  With your help, we work with the family to secure housing, learn English, apply for necessary public benefits, assist them in obtaining medical care, education, employment, and provide transportation until they have their driver’s license, and so much more.

We are looking for helpers with a wide range of skills and interests.  If you have just a bit of time, or are looking to make a larger time commitment, come learn more about how you can help Ridgefield transform the life of a refugee family.  We are hoping to be prepared to welcome a family in early 2024.

Refugee Resettlement in Ridgefield is partnering with Integrated Immigration and Refugee Services, IRIS.  IRIS is a non-profit social service agency dedicated to helping refugees and other displaced people establish new lives in Connecticut.

The First Congregational Church is located at 103 Main Street, Ridgefield, CT.  Hope to see you there!
