Ridgefield resident Barton Duvall Pattie, Jr. has died

Barton Duvall Pattie, Jr. passed away on Friday, September 15, 2023. Born in Waynesboro, VA, the son of Barton Duvall Pattie, Sr. and Augusta Harman Pattie.

After a childhood in Richmond, VA, he lived in London, England because of his father's career as an Associated Press journalist. He came back to the United States to attend Clemson University where he graduated, with honors, as a Chemical Engineer. After receiving a Master's Degree from the University of Minnesota, he embarked on a career with Union Carbide, first in Charleston, WV, then at their world headquarters in New York City and Danbury, CT. He also served as an officer in the United States Army.

He enjoyed travel, playing golf, tennis and platform tennis. He also enjoyed music and served on the Board of Directors of the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra. He loved animals -- special dogs Twinkie, Sissy and Poppinjoy and cat Teebae. He would have dropped any personal activity to help a person, or animal in need.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie, with whom he shared the above interests during their 52 years of marriage. He is also survived by a niece and nephew in Virginia and cousins in Virginia and Florida.

A remembrance service will be held Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Kane Funeral Home; 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield. Interment will follow in Mapleshade Cemetery, Ridgefield. Friends will be received at Kane Funeral Home on Saturday morning from 10:15 AM until the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions will be appreciated to Ridgefield Visiting Nurse Association, 27 Governor St., Ridgefield, CT 06877, Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra, 77 Danbury Rd., Ridgefield, CT or ROAR, Ridgefield Operation for Animal Rescue, 44 South St., Ridgefield, CT.
