Ridgefield OEM Announces Nationwide Emergency Alert Test Coming on Wednesday

In coordination with the FCC, FEMA will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System and the Wireless Emergency Alert System on
Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at approximately 2:20 p.m. EST.

A backup test date of Wednesday, October 11 has been set in case of postponement due to severe weather or other significant events.

The purpose of the test is to make sure that the national alert system is ready to warn the public in the event of an emergency. For more details click on this link: FEMA Emergency Alert Test.

What to Expect

No action is needed.” It will be accompanied by a unique tone and vibrations. If Spanish is the set language, the message will read, “ESTA ES UNA PRUEBA del Sistema Nacional de Alerta de Emergencia. No se necesita acción.”

* Radio and television broadcasts: People will hear a one-minute test message similar to the regular monthly test. It will state: “This is a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System, issued by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, covering the United States from 14:20 to 14:50 hours ET. This is only a test. No action is required by the public.”
