In coordination with the FCC, FEMA will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System and the Wireless Emergency Alert System on
Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at approximately 2:20 p.m. EST.
A backup test date of Wednesday, October 11 has been set in case of postponement due to severe weather or other significant events.
The purpose of the test is to make sure that the national alert system is ready to warn the public in the event of an emergency. For more details click on this link: FEMA Emergency Alert Test.
What to Expect
* Wireless phones: Should receive a test message that reads “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.” It will be accompanied by a unique tone and vibrations. If Spanish is the set language, the message will read, “ESTA ES UNA PRUEBA del Sistema Nacional de Alerta de Emergencia. No se necesita acción.”
