Ridgefield Scout's Patriotic Tribute: Veterans War Memorial Dedication Ceremony Took Place Today

Today, Saturday, November 18, a dedication ceremony took place in front of Ridgefield Police Station on East Ridge Road, the site of our Town's first Veterans War Memorial.

A short gravel walkway and attractive Belgian blocks make way for the granite monument, the brainchild of a Ridgefield Scout Caden Fincham of BSA Troop 431, whose idea was to raise funds and create and erect a monument to honor those who served in wars and conflicts since Vietnam. This patriotic tribute to our local American heroes serves as Caden’s Eagle Scout project.

Words of gratitude for our veterans by American Legion Post 78 Commander George Besse preceded adorning the Veterans War Memorial with two patriotic wreaths, carried to the monument by two Ridgefield soldiers who served in Afghanistan.

Following the laying of the wreaths, attendees bowed their heads in prayer as Ridgefield Scout and American Legion Chaplain shared heartfelt words.

The monument reads:

Lest we forget

In honor of Ridgefielders past and present, and their sacrifices in serving:

- Persian Gulf War

- War in Iraq

- Afghanistan War

Thank you, Caden, for honoring Ridgefielders who have served our country.
