St. Mary Parish in Ridgefield Welcomes Richard Owen as New Music Director

St. Mary Parish today announced that Richard Owen will take on the role as Music Director. He will begin at St. Mary’s on January 11.

In a message to parishioners, Msgr. Kevin Royal said, "Richard is an organist, conductor, teacher, pianist, and harpsichordist. He has been music director and organist of various churches throughout the New York area and is currently music director of St. John XXIII church (Ft. Myers, FL) and Camerata NY Orchestra.  He has worked as a conductor in the New York area and has prepared full choral presentations in Carnegie Hall, St. Patrick’s Cathedral and Cathedral of St. John the Divine, among others."

A graduate of Dartmouth College, Richard received his Master’s from the Manhattan School of Music and studied at the University for Music in Vienna, Austria. He has been on the musical staff of Columbia University, Western Connecticut State University and St. John’s University (NYC). He served as a cover conductor of the NY Philharmonic and was on the conducting staff of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein (Düsseldorf, Germany).

Richard has worked with artists at the Metropolitan Opera, the Alvin Ailey and Martha Graham dance companies, and has prepared choral ensembles for Netflix (Queen’s Gambit) and the film Worth (starring Michael Keaton).
