The Ridgefield Community Center was hopping today with community members who came out to support and celebrate the 100 Year Anniversary of The Girl Scouts. The fun and historical event was organized by longtime Ridgefield resident and dedicated Girl Scout leader, Carol O'Connell. Although O'Connell's daughters are now in college, she remains extremely involved Ridgefield Girl Scouts.
The story of the hundred year history of The Girl Scouts was told through retro-uniforms, photographs, and memorabilia. Ridgefield Girl Scouts young and old enjoyed being part of this historical occasion- chuckling at 'the way it used to be' and taking pride in the Girl Scout traditions that have stood the test of time- service to others and making the world a better place.

Founded in 1912 by Juliette Gordon Low, with the mission to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place, the official Girl Scout website, reports that the organization presently has a membership of over 3.2 million girls and adults with more than 50 million women in the U.S. today being Girl Scout alumnae.
