Ridgefield Public Schools Superintendent Shares Update on Proposed Alternative High School and Transition Program Building

In today's Friday Newsletter, Dr. Susie Da Silva, Ridgefield Public Schools Superintendent, shared news that the district has received architectural renderings for the potential new building for the Ridgefield 18-22 Transition Program (RTP) and Alternative High School (AHS). Securing a dedicated space for these programs has been a multi-year priority, addressing educational, legal, and financial responsibilities.

A Public Hearing on this and other proposed town projects will take place on February 5, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. at East Ridge Middle School. A referendum vote on February 25, 2025, at Yanity Gym will determine funding for three major initiatives:

  1. Construction of a New Alternative High School and Transition Program Building
  2. Design and Construction of Roof Repairs and Replacements at Ridgebury, Scotland, Veterans Park, and Ridgefield High School
  3. Design, Construction, and Equipping of a New Public Safety Building

Dr. Da Silva also provided an update on the FY26 Proposed Operating Budget, which includes initiatives such as:

  • Expansion of Elementary Spanish to grades K-2
  • Introduction of an Academically and Gifted Coordinator and program
  • Reduction of Pay-to-Participate fees for Ridgefield High School athletics

Budget challenges include a mid-year reduction in state funding for Special Education and an increase in health insurance costs. The Board of Education Public Hearing on the Superintendent’s FY26 Proposed Budget is scheduled for Saturday, February 1, at 10:00 a.m. at East Ridge Middle School.

Residents are encouraged to participate in these discussions and can read Dr. Da Silva’s full update in the Friday Newsletter.
