Ira Joe Fisher Receives Mercy University's Professional Achievement Award

At Mercy University’s 40th Annual Quill Awards (honoring students, alumni, and faculty), Ira Joe Fisher, lecturer in poetry and creative writing, received the Professional Achievement Award acknowledging his career as an American poet, broadcaster, and educator. It was presented by Professor Louis Grasso, Program Director of Media Studies at Mercy.

A longtime radio and television broadcaster, Fisher also enjoyed a parallel career as a broadcasting, newspaper, and magazine writer. The author of five volumes of poetry and a collection of essays, he has taught writing and communications at New England College, the University of Connecticut (Stamford, Waterbury, and Torrington), and at Mercy University since 2009. And Fisher has presented lectures at Manhattanville College and Keene State College in New Hampshire.

Fisher expresses his belief “…that words are a blessing in our lives. Words written and words spoken.” He lives in Ridgefield with his wife, Shelly.
