Letter: Lounsbury House and its significance to the Town of Ridgefield

To the Editor:

I am writing regarding Lounsbury House and its significance to the Town of Ridgefield.

As a thirty-nine-year resident of Ridgefield, I have come to admire and appreciate the buildings and architecture that date back to a simpler time.

With all the recent demolition and new construction ongoing, I felt compelled to stop for a moment and appreciate what already exists. Of course, change is constant, and although progress has a role, history does as well.

After recently taking a lengthy walk along Main Street, the beauty and elegance of Lounsbury struck me in a way I had not previously experienced. The architectural detail is nothing short of remarkable and enhances the aesthetics of the entire property and Main Street. I genuinely feel that such a preserved landmark benefits my quality of life.

I understand that progress and new buildings have their place in our town. Still, preserving historic buildings must also be a priority to perpetuate the appreciation that comes with history.
