The Peter Parley/West Lane District Schoolhouse will open for a season of Last Sundays at the Schoolhouse on May 26 from 1 to 4 p.m. We'll celebrate one of the early teachers at the school, David Olmstead, whose notebook recording the attendance of his pupils as well as other information is in the Ridgefield Historical Society collection.
The schoolhouse, at the intersection of West Lane, South Salem Road, Silver Spring Road and Peter Parley Lane, where a one-room school has stood since 1756. The last students completed classes there in 1915, when the town's first modern school opened on East Ridge.
