RHS Music Department names May Student of the Month

The Ridgefield High School music department is proud to announce that Peter Karloutsos is May’s Music Student of the Month. His talent, devotion, and leadership abilities have made him a crucial member of the community.

Peter began singing at Farmingville Elementary school, and carried his passion all throughout middle and high school. Serving as the middle school liaison and occasional section leader for the baritones, Peter brought an energy of teamwork and devotion to every high school choir rehearsal. RHS Choir Director Lauren Verney-Fink says, “It has been an absolute joy to teach Peter, and I am so proud of him. His singing skills steadily improved each year, and by the time 12th grade arrived, he was a true leader of his peers….in every sense of the word. The other singers followed Pete’s lead as a singer and as a person. I’m forever grateful for the impact he had on the RHS Choir program and will really miss him next year!”

With help from Lauren Verney-Fink, Peter was able to overcome nerves about singing in public. In doing so, Peter strengthened the Concert Choir and functioned as a great leader and role model for his peers. Reflecting upon his experiences singing, Peter says, "My best memories singing with the choir are singing the national anthem at the Memorial Day parade and at the homecoming football games. The most memorable moment with the choir was singing Magnificat at Carnegie Hall under composer John Rutter."

When asked about choir, Peter says “Joining the RHS choir has introduced me to so many people that I have since become great friends with, and I am very grateful to be a part of this amazing group. I think it is important that people know that you can be an athlete and also sing in the choir.”

Peter is an incredible leader both in choir and other extracurriculars. Peter has been captain of the RHS varsity baseball team for two years, and enjoys coaching youth sports in his free time. He also plays for the RHS basketball team.

Peter will be attending the United States Coast Guard Academy next year, and will play on their baseball team. Congratulations Peter, and thank you for all you have given to the music community!
