RHS student selected to participate in US Naval Academy Summer STEM program

Ella Mendez, a freshman at Ridgefield High School (Class of 2028), has been selected to participate in the highly competitive United States Naval Academy Summer STEM Program in Annapolis, Maryland. This prestigious program accepts students based on their academic excellence, leadership potential, and passion for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). The Academy receives over 5,000 applications annually and Ella is one of just 330 students per grade (9–11) invited to attend this competitive program.

Designed to inspire future leaders in STEM fields, the Summer STEM Program challenges students through hands-on projects, team-based problem-solving, and exposure to cutting-edge technology. It also offers a unique opportunity to experience life at one of the nation’s most respected service academies.

Ella will join a select group of students from across all 50 states and international locations, working alongside Midshipmen mentors and Naval Academy faculty during the immersive weeklong program.

The U.S. Naval Academy is consistently ranked among the top undergraduate engineering programs in the country by U.S. News & World Report, reflecting its rigorous academics and commitment to developing the next generation of innovators and leaders.
