
RIDGEFIELD, CONNECTICUT — The Ridgefield Lions Peewee AA team secured the 2024-25 Tier 2 New England Regional Championship after a series of thrilling victories against regional opponents. The team’s hard-fought journey through the tournament culminated in a dramatic 2-1 win over the Connecticut RiverHawks, in what was a rematch of the Connecticut State Championship final.
The tournament, which took place over the weekend of March 14th in Auburn, Maine, saw the Lions battle against teams from Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Maine. Each game tested the Lions’ skill, resilience, and teamwork, but they remained undeterred, ultimately earning a spot in the highly anticipated fina
In the championship game, the Lions faced the CT RiverHawks in a tense and highly competitive match. The previous state final had been a closely contested affair, and the rematch was no different. The two teams fought tooth and nail, with both sides putting on a masterclass in defense and strategy. In the end, it was the Lions who emerged victorious, securing the 2-1 win and the coveted regional title and ultimate redemption of their CT State Final 1-0 loss.
“This is an incredible achievement for our team,” said Head Coach Rob Miller. “They worked so hard throughout the season and this weekend every player in that room showed up for us on and off the ice. Henry (Lions goalie) played exceptionally well which was critical to make this possible.”
The Ridgefield Lions’ success at the New England Regional Championship caps off an unforgettable season. The players, coaches, and supporters can now look back on their accomplishments with pride, knowing that they’ve reached the pinnacle of their age group’s competition in the region.
The championship victory also marks an important milestone for the Ridgefield Lions’ youth hockey program, which continues to develop young talent and foster a love of the sport in the community. The Lions’ win will undoubtedly inspire future generations of players to strive for greatness and continue their dominance in Tier 2.
